Help celebrate the successes of the local Boy Scout program next week
at the annual Friends of Scouting Breakfast, set for Wednesday morning
in Hoke 309 at Eastern Oregon University. The event provides an opportunity to celebrate scouting’s birthday, which turns 99 this year and is gearing up for the centennial celebration in February 2010. The event also offers an opportunity to view displays of Eagle Scout projects. Local Eagle Scouts will share information about their projects and be honored for their work. The event begins at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday. The cost for breakfast is $15. Breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. Reservations are required by calling Cassy at 963-6085. The guest speaker will be Jeff Crews, a local Boy Scout leader. Scouting is the kind of program that makes a difference in young people’s lives. From Cubs through Boy Scouts to the Venturing program, those who participate in scouting programs learn lifelong skills. They learn about working toward goals, responsibility, organizing projects, being good citizens. Anyone who has participated in scouting can attest that the things learned in scouting are called upon frequently throughout life, even for those who don’t make the rank of Eagle. Scouting helps build a solid foundation. In our local area we constantly see the impact scouts have on our community, from conducting food drives to doing Eagle projects — projects that can range from building benches and flagpoles to enhancing the Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area. Scouting does makes a difference in young people’s lives, and scouts make a difference in our community. Help celebrate scouting’s birthday and its positive impact on youth. |
