Crazy Days, car show pack ’em in downtown

Saturday was a dream come true for La Grande’s downtown merchants. The downtown was packed with people for the annual Crazy Days celebration and the Grande Ronde-A-View car show. It was great to see. Crazy Days has been around for a long time as a merchant promotion. Several years ago the downtown merchants decided to expand the promotion into what basically has become a summer festival with participation from numerous groups and a host of activities. Then along came the Union County Timber Cruisers car club and its plan for the Grande Ronde-A-View to coincide with Crazy Days, and the entire event has continued to blossom under the guidance of La Grande Main Street.

Adams Avenue was blocked off from Fourth Street to Greenwood and was filled with everything from radio-controlled airplanes to merchant displays, a variety of booths, the Island City Lions pig train, a climbing wall and even a raised pole vault ramp and pit, not to mention about 120 beautifully restored vehicles that stretched through much of the festival area. People could check out the cars as well as what the downtown merchants had to offer.

The event ties in nicely with the La Grande Farmers Market at Max Square and Fourth Street, which runs
9 a.m. to noon every Saturday. Even businesses outside the core area got in on the action, with special promotions and outdoor displays that encouraged folks to stop on by.

Topping it all off was the weather — perfect for such an event.

All in all, it’s no wonder there were so many smiles on the faces of people in downtown Saturday. Crazy Days was a most enjoyable event.
