EOU’s Black Student Union deserves salute
EOU’s Black Student Union deserves salute

Eastern Oregon University is not the most racially diverse of colleges,
but it has made important strides in recent years reflecting the
multicultural quilt of the world at large. An important part of that
quilt is EOU’s Black Student Union. The union should be commended for
its organization of activities surrounding Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Jan. 19 and Black History Month, which follows in February.
The Black Student Union hosted a Beyond a Dream banquet the night of
the MLK Jr. Day celebration. The event was a wakeup call to fight
injustice, in whatever disguise it appears, and to continue to press
for equal rights and responsibilities. The Black Student Union also sponsored Martin Luther King Jr. Integrity Awards. The awards honored community members as well as EOU students, staff and faculty for actions taken and contributions made in the spirit of the great civil rights leader. The Black Student Union plays an important role on the EOU campus and in the community keeping the dream alive. |
