Enjoy 63rd annual Elgin Stampede

Another Northeast Oregon summer tradition takes place this week with the 63rd annual edition of the Elgin Stampede. The popular event kicks off tonight with Family Night and runs daily through Sunday, culminating with the final rodeo performance and the always popular Stampede Challenge event.

The Stampede has forged its own tradition in Northeast Oregon, right along with the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show and Chief Joseph Days. The all-volunteer Elgin Stampeders group just keeps making the show better every year. They do this by putting on successful fundraisers, enhancing the grounds and tending to details of the show. They have a lot to be proud of.

Tonight’s Family Night, beginning at 6, will offer events for kids that range from mutton busting to goat tying and calf riding. Admission is free thanks to sponsoring by Community Bank.

The popular Mark Nichols Memorial Bull Riding event takes center stage Friday night, an evening that also includes the queen coronation.

Professional rodeo will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday and right after the 1:45 p.m. Stampede Challenge on Sunday.

Other events include the kids parade Saturday at 10 a.m. and the Stampede parade Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Stampeders go to a lot of work every year to put on a great show. They deserve the community’s support. So get on out to Elgin and have some fun at the 63rd annual Elgin Stampede.
