North Powder builds ImaginNation dynasty

What is it about North Powder? The community’s students are demonstrating, year in and year out, what a combination of hard work, perseverance and imagination can do. The Badger Guys team from Powder Valley High School have qualified for the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn. This is the fourth straight year the Badger Guys have qualified for the Global Finals. Earlier this month this year’s team won the high school division Obstacles Course competition at the state meet in Corvallis. What an accomplishment! Destination ImagiNation is a contest that focuses on creativity and problem solving. Teams of up to seven members compete in various challenges that require complex thinking, problem solving, teamwork and creativity. The Badger Guys created a global obstacle course set to original music. The course includes nine wonders of the world, all set to scale. Judges at the state meet said the team took them “around the world in eight minutes,’’ a significant feat. The Badger Guys team is made up of sophomore Zane Garner, eighth-grader Peter Colton and freshmen Nathaniel Pointer, Jesse Brown, Trenton Dixon, Brenton Reed and Chase Ficek. Adult volunteers are Laura Pointer, who with Shawn Brown are the team’s managers, and Vicky Brown and Gary Pointer. All have done a superb job. To get to Knoxville, the team has to raise money to pay its expenses. A baked potato feed and auction is planned for May 2 in the Powder Valley gym. The feed begins at 5 p.m., the auction at 6. The team is also selling raffle tickets for two drawings — a night’s stay at Wildhorse, including two rounds of golf and two tickets to the cultural center, and a night’s stay at the Anniversary inn in Boise. To buy tickets call 856-3210. Let’s all what we can to support this team’s success and to show that Northeast Oregon is behind them. |
