Weigh in with state on wind farm issue

Both sides in the area’s big wind farm debate had a chance to present their cases to the state Energy Facility Siting Council last week at a meeting in Union. The hearing in the S.E. Miller School gymnasium gave residents a chance to voice their opinions and served as a good reminder that the public comment period is open.

‘End of road’ stays active even in winter

Wallowa County folks seem to understand that if you live at the end of the road at a relatively high elevation in a mountainous land, you’ve got to give people a reason to visit and venture outdoors — especially in winter. And that goes even if the end of the road falls in one of the most beautiful areas of the state. Wallowa County keeps the events coming, even in winter.

After graduating in 1974, however, he landed a job with Union Pacific Railroad, where he has worked ever since.

The Christmas Story

The story of Christmas as told in The Bible:

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

Finish filling those Christmas lists locally

The rush is on. The Christmas shopping season is in its final few days. What better time to make sure the rest of our shopping is done locally — in Union and Wallowa counties.

Help support Saturday’s Santa Mall

The Santa Mall has become one of our area’s greatest Christmas traditions. And for good reason. It gives children a chance to make sure they can buy gifts for their loved ones — even if they don’t have the resources to do so.
