Some important workshops are coming up for people interested in enhancing their own financial fitness and that of their business.

The Region 13 Worksource Oregon Board will sponsor “Financial Fitness’’ workshops beginning this week in Union, Wallowa and Baker counties. Also, Northeast Oregon Economic Development District will launch “Foundations for Business Success’’ classes in all three counties.

The Financial Fitness workshops are for anyone who seeks more independence and better control of their financials, says Debbie Gargalis, manager of the Oregon Employment Department offices in all three counties. Those who have lost jobs and are struggling to make ends meet are especially encouraged to attend.
The workshops will be broken into two parts. The first class will be about accessing credit reports, dealing with creditors, creating a budget. In the second session people will learn about how to apply information to their own needs.

The workshops are scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 6 and 8 at the employment office in La Grande, 1901 Adams Ave.; 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 20 and 22 at the Baker County Senior Center; and 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 27 and 29 at the employment office in Enterprise, 104 Litch St.

The workshops are free, but pre-registration is required by calling 541-963-7111 in
La Grande, 541-523-6331 in Baker City or 541-426-4972 in Enterprise.

The Foundations for Business Success classes also launch this week. People who are considering starting their own business, or those just looking for a refresher course on the elements of business success, are encouraged to attend. The cost is $100, but full scholarships are available.

The classes will cover mission statements, start-up and overhead costs, profit goal-
setting, cash flow, marketing, licensing and organizational structure.

The series will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays Oct. 6 to Nov. 17 in Zabel 204 at EOU; 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays Oct. 5 to Nov. 16 at the EOU Regional Office in Baker City; and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays Oct. 7 to Dec. 2 at the Fishtrap Coffin House in Enterprise.
