Soup supper deserves support

Saturday, people have a chance to savor soup, take home a piece of quality art and fight domestic violence.

A small army of volunteers is working hard to make the 16th edition of the Soup Supper to benefit Shelter From the Storm a success. Doors open at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Friendship Center. Soup will be served at 6:30 p.m.

Local potters have been working feverishly handcrafting the bowls, and come Saturday, Shelter From the Storm board members turned chefs will be serving up three flavorful soups.

Among the many people making a difference for the event are Leah Starr from Kneads Bakery, who traditionally donates a large amount of bread, and the Fourth Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which provides manpower to set up the tables and chairs.

Long-time contributor Wayne Arnson is donating a metal sculpture this year, and Ellen Kaigler, also a perennial shelter supporter, is giving another one of her quilts.

The non-profit shelter provides a wide range of services for victims of domestic violence, including a 24-hour crisis line, advocacy and education.
