Letters and Comments for January 27, 2010 Might not return to area
I am writing to express my deep concerns about the inhumane trapping practices in the Hurricane Creek area. My wife and I first traveled to Wallowa County from Washington State this past summer and we have returned twice since to take in the awesome natural beauty of this area and enjoy the friendly hospitality of the locals. Hidden behind the beauty of the area we were astounded to find out about the ongoing barbaric practices of trapping, especially considering that it has been going on so close to trails where people, their dogs and horses go to find recreation. In sum, I think that snaring and trapping of wildlife in an area such as Hurricane Creek should be banned. In general I’m against all trapping. However, if the locals think they can’t live without it, at least proper signage should be in effect. We are seriously thinking of not returning to Wallowa County to spend our hard-earned tourist dollars until this issue is appropriately and humanely addressed. Rick Goudzwaard Poulsbo, Wash.
