Letters and Comments for June 30, 2009 Questions about rail cars To the Editor: Now that this yellow cancer of railroad cars has spread through the valley I have three questions that I can’t seem to find anyone to answer. First: Is there a guarantee that this mess will leave in three years? If so that might make this a bit easier to choke down. Next: what is the exact date they will be leaving? I will mark my calendar and I will be watching! Lastly: Is the revenue generated by this catastrophe going to pay off the huge debt, or is it being spent buying new equipment and subsidizing the ongoing operations of a money-losing business run out of Union County? The lack of forthcoming information and secret dealing just leaves people suspicious and untrusting. Joan Roundy Joseph Use money for pool, bike trail To the Editor: I have heard complaints about the railroad cars on our tracks in Wallowa County. Personally, I am OK with the cars because the money we are getting for the cars is good for our county. I think we should use some of the money to build a pool and a bike trail. If we are losing our view, we need other things to do! Katelynn Sidoti Sixth grader, Enterprise Elementary |
