Big stake in La Grande schools To the Editor: In the past weeks, I’ve had the privilege to get to know Bud Walker. What a great guy. He has such a diversified background and a wealth of experience to bring to the La Grande School Board. Bud leaves no doubt about his sincerity in caring for the kids. Bud refers to them as “our wonderful children.” His caring doesn’t stop there. He really cares about the teachers, buildings and the economic pressures facing the district. Bud’s five children attend La Grande schools. You can rest assured that he has a big stake in wanting La Grande schools to be the best they can be. Bud is highly qualified and has the conviction to be the best person to represent this community on the La Grande School Board. Please join me in voting for Bud Walker to represent Zone 1, Position 1 on the La Grande School Board. John Sprenger La Grande Brings knowledge, skills To the Editor: With the latest devastating cuts being proposed by the La Grande School District, the upcoming school board election is extremely important. We need citizens who have good business experience, solid fiscal knowledge, commitment to improving our schools and a willingness to become involved. Mike Berglund is that type of citizen, and that is why I am supporting him for the La Grande School Board. I have known Mike for two years and have worked side by side with him on many local committees. Having formerly served on the La Grande School Board, I understand the importance of having individuals in this position who are conscientious, open minded and dedicated. Mike Berglund has these qualities. He is extremely analytical and methodical when reading and researching information; he is open to seeking input from the public before reaching a conclusion; and, since moving to La Grande only two years ago, Mike immediately became an active part of our community. Mike will bring his knowledge and skills to this position. He has a background of management in a large international engineering firm, awareness of public service through past employment as a sheriff in Washington, and a real desire to promote core values in our educational system. Mike Berglund will definitely be an asset to the La Grande School Board. MaryAnn Miesner La Grande |
