Glossy brochure is excessive

To the Editor:

“City of La Grande wastes $$ on Water Reports”

Would that make a headline?

I was appalled when the mail arrived Tuesday and I found a quarter-fold glossy color print brochure, professionally designed and printed, for the City of La Grande’s 2008 Water Quality Report.

How much did that cost compared to the two-page printout that we have received in the past?

I think it is excessive to have the report professionally color printed in these economic times of rising prices and diminished services.

Can someone really prove to me that this new color brochure is less expensive than the plain paper report with the same information?

I am appalled at the wasted expense. Most consumers glance at it and recycle it within seconds. Put the information on the website and save the postage costs, printing costs and the waste.

Let’s stop the waste and spend our money in the city where it needs to be put, not on showy glossy-flyers that end up in the recycle bin 10 seconds later!
