Letters and Comments for May 26, 2009 Pelosi digs hole for herself To the Editor: It looks like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has backed herself into a corner. She made a spectacle of herself as she was being questioned at a news conference several days ago. She could not seem to get her facts straight concerning whether or not she had been briefed on the matter of the minor “torture” of waterboarding. She stumbled and mumbled and vascillated back and forth and could not seem to find her notes. It was not enough for her to try to wiggle her way out of the aforementioned dilemma, but then she accused the CIA of lying. Not a good move, Princess Nanc. Bad, bad move. Not only did she accuse the CIA of lying — no, that was not enough for our “jet-setting” Nancy — she kept on repeating her charge against the CIA. Now, if she was to end up losing the job of speaker of the House, it would be fine with me. The downside, of course, is that they would put in someone else who was as bad or worse, if that is possible. What really troubles me and should have the same effect on all Americans, is that not only she, but way too many of our elected representatives are more concerned about their cushy job and party loyalty (often slovenly loyalty) than they are in the security of their constituents and the nation as a whole. I have this picture in my mind of Nancy, in her expensive jet, streaming to California for one of her many taxpayer-funded visits home, being chased by several CIA jets. I can imagine the anxiety of the liberals as they observe her trying to squirm out of this mess, entirely of her own making. Of course they will either try to distance themselves from her or they will do all they can to get her out of hole she has dug for herself. Stormy Burns Joseph
