Another great production

To the Editor:

Last Saturday evening, I attended the Elgin Opera House presentation of “Annie.” To everyone who saw either of the previous two Opera House productions, “Beauty and the Beast” or “The Sound of Music,” “Annie” took another giant step forward in its production, development and management.

Elaborate sets and fast-paced scene changes, including “flying changes” that occur during the performance, can be credited to stage manager Heidi Peterson and technical manager Matt Bloodgood. Maureen O’Brien’s choreography, which involves hordes of pre-teen actors, works surprisingly well. Rebecca Chelson’s musical direction is solid, especially considering the compact size of the orchestra. All the actors deserve praise for the monumental amount of time and effort they’ve obviously invested.

This production is a family affair, clearly apparent by the repeating last names in the program.

Annie’s spirit captures the heart and soul of our community. We can all be proud of our friends and neighbors who once again have created a quality presentation for our enjoyment. A huge thank-you to Terry Hale from everyone who appreciates the Elgin Opera House preservation effort and quality family-friendly entertainment.

A few tickets remain for the final four performances next weekend. Call 663-6324 for availability.

Flip excursion, car storage

To the Editor:

It seems to me that the railroad could store the rail cars between Minam and Elgin. This would put the unsightly rail cars pretty much out of sight. They could then run their excursions from Minam to Joseph, thereby bringing tourists and commerce to the valley.

I am sure the WURA has reasons why this won’t work, but maybe they should work on making this happen. It could be a win/win solution.
