Good news, bad news
A thumbs up and a thumbs down for Halloween. I would like to give a big thumbs up to the merchants and residents of La Grande who put their time and money into making downtown a fun and safe Halloween event for our kids! We really appreciate your efforts, thank you! Closing off the streets gives the kids a safe place to run from merchant to merchant as well as the adults to get even more familiar with the offerings by our local stores. That being said, I must give a thumbs down to the stores that do not choose to participate. While I’m roaming with the kids from store to store I become more familiar with owners and merchandise better, taking advantage of this time I usually purchase more than I would otherwise. Non-participating merchants leave an impression of (I must use a poetic license here) bah-humbug. Now a thumbs up to some La Grande residences. My daughter and her friend really enjoyed screaming “trick or treat” as loud as they could the minute a generous neighbor opened their door. We wappreciate the people who left their porch lights on and took the time to open their doors. And to those whose homes were specially decorated — your efforts are so enjoyed by young kids! Speaking of witch (sorry another license used), a big thumbs down to the hoodlums who stole our Halloween decorations. As we were out in the neighborhood, we could not be home to give out the candy, so we put a big bowl of treats on our doorstep. Taking more than one was to be expected, but stealing our decorations was not. A big thumbs down to the party poopers of La Grande! Tajah and Dhara-Chai McDermott La Grande |
