What about the Badgers?

To the Editor:

I'm sure you remember me, the old “letters to the editor” guy. Well anyway, the purpose of this letter is to wonder why your sport page, so far this football season, has rarely mentioned or reported on North Powder’s games. Recently your paper did include results of a North Powder and Eagle Valley game, but three days after.

I realize you have limited space available, but your sports editor reports on the other Union County schools as well as Wallowa County. I know for a fact that Gary Steele’s sports reports (in the Baker City Herald) are available to your sports editor. So I see no real excuse for not even giving the scores. After all, Powder Valley School is in Union County.

As long as I’m being critical, I might as well mention a couple of other things. I think there are a lot more people interested in local sports than all the details and expanded writings on major league baseball. Of course, that is only my thinking. You do great reporting on EOU. My congrats. But I would also like to see some UO and OSU results in your Monday edition.

As you probably know, the Oregonian sends an early edition to Eastern Oregon, so results of Saturday games are not available here.

Frankly, I think your paper could take great advantage of the Oregonian’s failure to provide these things to us here in Eastern Oregon. After all, we are only 260 miles from Portland, or a five-hour drive, so they have no excuse for not providing a later edition containing Saturday sports results.

Hope you don’t mind my rambling on. Other than my comments on sports, your paper does a good job.

Harry Bigler
