Letters and Comments for October 19, 2009 Get tax-happy government out of our pocketbooks To the Editor: In Mr. Steve Clements letter to the editor on Sept. 30, he accuses me of not knowing tax laws and the procedures of taxation. I must assure Mr. Clements that I am very aware of the tax laws and procedures. As to the charge of being a taxpayer that is fed up with solution to budget problems is to tax, tax, tax, then I am proudly guilty. He also suggests that the citizen who has the audacity to question the city budget, should be labeled as old and angry and has a personal agenda. My personal agenda is trying to get government and tax-happy officials out of our pocketbooks. I am a wood products wage earner and receive no taxpayer dollars for my income. I challenge Mr. Clements to reveal his source of income. It might shed a lot of light on why he believes that increasing taxes and fees is OK. Daniel Pokorney La Grande |
