Letters and Comments for October 29, 2009 Keeping end goal in mind To the Editor: The grass will be planted … About a year ago in Union, teachers, administrators, coaches, local contractors and parents came together with a common goal and shared vision of a new youth athletic complex for the children to play upon. Each person’s vision was a little different, but everyone started moving forward doing what they knew how to do. There were grants to apply for, hot dogs to sell, dirt to haul and rocks to remove. Finally the dream could go no further without finalizing the small details, which were not so small. So the negotiations began, many passionate views and opinions were expressed, all valid. The short version is, there was a compromise, a plan everyone agreed upon and now here we go. We are ready to complete a much-needed project that will continue to bring our community together. I hope that all of you will come to Union and take a look at our new fields and see what we have accomplished by working together. I want to say thank you to the Union School District, Union School Board, Union coaching staff, city of Union Baseball/Softball Association, city of Union, local contractors, parents and the children. You see, we kept our end goal in mind, we want better. We want better schools, better communities and better facilities for our children, our future. Kris Martens Union
