Letters and Comments for September 11, 2009 Exceptional FFA chapter To the Editor: Seven American FFA Degrees from the Union FFA Chapter. Incredible! That is a huge accomplishment, especially in light of the fact that most chapters in Oregon have one maybe every three to five years. Cheers to Dennis Clark who led the way, as he has for years, and to all of the members and their families. This is a huge deal and all of you deserve to be very proud as does your community. Go Union! John Dimick Eagle Point Making Union look bad To the Editor: I am disappointed in The Observer for publishing the letter from Tammy Martin. Is it just me, or does your paper take some dark pleasure in making Union look bad? Tammy’s letter demeaned all restaurants in town because she did not identify which one establishment was disrespectful to her friends. Is that fair? Should all restaurant owners suffer? The business owners of Union are not a bunch of biker-hating bigots. We have looked for opportunities to bring more motorcycle groups to town. We have worked hard and invested a lot of money to bring tourists and locals back to Union and support our businesses. It just makes me very angry that Tammy did not contact the business owner about her concerns before she (and The Observer) put this stuff in print and gave a black eye to guilty and innocent alike. I will bet you money that the owner of that business had no idea what their employee did and would not condone such an act in a million years. It just so happens that Tammy Martin sent me a copy of her original letter where she goes on to say that she and her friends will now boycott all business owners and residents in Union because of this one bad experience. I will be sending her a response because I think it is important to point out to her that the business community in Union is made up of good men and women who donate to the community and support all groups of people. I guess all I have to say is that Tammy should take her own advice, “Do not judge lest you be judged yourselves.” Deborah Clark Union Commercial Club |
