Letters and Comments for September 17, 2009 Friendly and fun gesture To the Editor: Here is another motorcycle rider story with a different slant from the previous ones. We as a group meet each Sunday morning for breakfast in one of the local restaurants that can accomodate our usual 10-12 number. One of our spots is the White Horse in Elgin. While enjoying breakfast, we commented on four Harley riders who were parking their bikes outside the window. The four men entered and sat at the counter. One of the men came over to our table and said that one of his friends wanted to buy our breakfasts if we would sing for them. He told us they were on their way home to the Seattle area after touring several states. They had come by way of Yellowstone this time. What they didn’t know was that it was the birthday of one of our group so we decided to sing “Happy Birthday’’ to her. Everyone got a laugh over this, including the man who said he would buy our breakfasts. Big joke huh? Not at all, for as we waited for the waitress to bring our checks, and waited a bit more ... we were told the checks had been taken care of. Needless to say, we were surprised and above all grateful, and more to the subject of this letter we all left with warm thoughts of a group of “motorcycle guys on Harleys” stopping by for breakfast with the locals. Cindy and Jerry Foster, Kathy and Ken Hanson, Dee and Al Weathermon, Jean and Floyd Knight, Sandi and Mike Donnelly, Jodi Bagley Fun event for all ages To the Editor: The Celebrate La Grande event provided fun and activities for all ages to participate and observe. We enjoyed the whole evening. We appreciate the people who provided information about different organizations in our community, as well as those who provided and handed out the free refreshments. Many thanks to Eric Valentine and Kimberly Kellar who have donated their photographic skills to help promote future community projects like “Look Up! La Grande!” Any community that provides such fun-filled activities needs our support. Thank you, La Grande. Carol Cochran La Grande |
