Neighborhood cats a problem To the Editor: We have recently made a very expensive investment in landscaping our front yard, which included many new plants and an intricate watering system. Now we are finding the cats in our neighborhood have made it their litter box. In covering up their deposits, they displace the watering spigots which make it a daily chore for us to move all of them back into place. Should we not continually repair the damage, the plants would receive no water and die. We do love animals. We ourselves have a dog, but would never let him defecate in other people’s yards. There is a leash law for dogs and we are beginning to think there should be one for cats as well since they are allowed to run free, attack the birds we feed and then use our flower beds for their toilet. So — cat owners — get a litter box for your cats and keep them in please. They would actually be safer from disease and harm and would make you a better neighbor. Be forewarned that traps are being set in our yard to protect it from the invaders. Gene Carey La Grande |
