Denying health care

To the Editor:

Planned Parenthood provides health care for poor women.

Yes, it also does abortions, but it is illegal for any federal money to be spent on abortions, so all the federal money Planned Parenthood gets goes to low income women’s healthcare.

Is it not interesting that the Republicans insisted on having a tax break for the wealthy but want to deny health care to low income women? Who are they working for?

Impressed by Guard

To the Editor:

We are blessed in this county to have so many fine institutions including the hospital and medical facilities, Eastern Oregon University, public library and the many businesses. I would also like to include the National Guard Armory and its unit located in La Grande.

Recently, our church board took an issue needing to be addressed to the local headquarters. We were met by SSG Mary Grove, who counseled us in a very professional manner. She took immediate action, contacting her superior, MSG Brian Love, and the matter was resolved by the following morning.

I was impressed by the professionalism, concern and immediate attention given by these individuals, and would like to publically express how thankful we are for them.

Our National Guard plays a vital role in our freedom we have in this country. I would encourage the public to stop and thank any of our military heroes, past and present, for their efforts in defending our freedom.
