Step up for our kids
Once again, the funding from the state is not what it needs to be for our school district. They are going to be asked to again do more with less. I’ve never personally had a problem with this concept; it’s a great idea. However, this district has been at a point for years that it is simply an attempt to do the same with less. Many times they have tried to accomplish this task, but we have all witnessed what is reality. Staff and programs have been thinned or cut, facilities continue to deteriorate, and frankly, quality has been compromised. There is no great “answer” to cure our problem. We are simply being asked again as a community to assist in keeping things as they are, for a time, in hopes that things will change. The district and board are asking us to assure that they will have enough to keep things close to what they are now. Now is a time we can step up and make a statement to our kids and to those who teach them that we “get it,” and that we think education is important. I’m supporting the concept that we all need to do more with less, and be willing to contribute to this cause. Our budget committee, school board and district personnel have been diligent and responsible with their request, and could certainly justify asking for more. I will be voting in support of the local option levy. And I would also challenge all to at least become informed about the bond levy request of voters next month. Check the school district website; meet with a school administrator; call a school board member; and get the facts. Make an educated decision to do more with less.
