Stop this boondoggle
“Boondoggle” is the word I have associated with wind energy farms ever since I started studying their ramifications. Recently, an article published by Cascade Policy Institute confirmed my opinion. In this article by Nick Sibilia, it is reported that the Shepherds Flat wind farm, under construction in Gilliam and Morrow counties, has received over $1.2 billion in federal, state and local subsidies. According to The Oregonian newspaper, the farm will create only 35 permanent jobs. In other words, each of those jobs will cost American taxpayers over $34 million! The developer of the project will bear only 10 percent of the cost and will earn 30 percent return on the investment. All the power will go to Southern Cailfornia. Wake up, supporters of Antelope Ridge Wind Farm! Please do not ignore the facts. Please work with the Friends of the Grande Ronde Valley to stop this boondoggle. Visit www.fgrv.org for more information. It is my hope that we will not be labeled as fools by future generations. Linda Bond Union
