Wow! Do I have issues with Greg Johnson’s letter. I have absolutely no problem with his daughter choosing how she wants to be educated. However, we, as a democratic society, have decided how we will educate our children (public schools). We, as a democratic society, have decided how we will pay for this education (taxes). If you would like to choose something else, pay for it. As for being upset with the La Grande School District for not wanting to send 80 percent of the state tax money that is supposed to be used to educate a student out of the community that Mr. Johnson’s business is in, good for them. Damon J. Nash Union I would think the good people over in Medford were glad to know or possibly surprised to know the United States is now composed of 57 states, maybe even 58 states. Want my authority for that? It was read from prepared notes in a speech by Mr. Obama in Medford. Fox News, I am told, carried it and Conservative Truth, published by Newsman Tom Barreth, carried the video on his e-mail news. Sen. Obama’s words were, “I have now visited 57 states or was it 58?” An intentional misstatement maybe, but from prepared notes a speaker would look up, smile with a look that asked the audience, “Did you get that?” He is going to make a fine president.
