Venue needed

To the Editor:

Oregon Green Free East is a federally recognized 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that provides resources to legal Oregon Medical Marijuana Program cardholders at no cost and with no obligation.

We serve the seven eastern most counties in Oregon and many of our members drive long distances to attend our monthly meetings. Most are patients who have major health issues and depend on us for help.

Due to federal restrictions, we had to stop providing plants and medicine at the university building in June, a location we had been using for many years.

We have made pleas to many of the churches and other organizations that have facilities to meet our needs without success.

According to our mission statement, we specifically target low-income patients and many of the patients we serve are chronically and terminally ill. We have a desperate need for a safe, secure, accessible building where we can help patients learn to become self-sufficient and teach healthy ingestion methods such as eating and tinctures.

There are many older patients using cannabis to replace narcotics such as morphine to control their pain who depend on us for access.

Locally, we have donated to the Riverside Pavilion Restoration Fund, Special Olympics, the food bank, Neighbor to Neighbor and Salvation Army. At Thanksgiving, we provided three local families with meals and at Christmas we are adopting four families who will receive meals and gift cards for each child.

Each month, our volunteers serve a wonderful meal and our membership has voted overwhelmingly to expand our meal to include the hungry in our community.

We are simply a group of volunteers actively seeking to help the neediest in our community and need a safe, accessible place to do so.
