Form good habit

With a new year upon us, many people are thinking about exchanging previous bad habits for quality new and improved practices.

To form a good habit that will be practiced for a year or longer, research shows that a person must initially practice the new habit for 66 days or approximately two months.

The fine citizens of Elgin who live and work there have been demonstrating positive habits by volunteering their talents, resources and energy to make their community a better place.

Their generosity is worthy of imitation.

Additionally, many of the volunteers are younger and have learned from mentors, family members and other seasoned volunteers that working in any capacity to improve their community will result in reaping rewards far greater than they could have imagined.

These citizens took the 66-day-plus challenge and realized their full potential right in their own backyard while creating a positive life-long habit along.

This has ignited a firestorm of inspiration and motivation that makes a small town, such as Elgin, with limited resources, capable of achieving greatness.

Simply by binding individuals' talents and their desires to make their community a place where they are proud to live, work and serve, the results are nothing short of amazing.

In the coming new year, there will be countless local churches, clubs and organizations developing community improvement strategies that will utilize the talents of individuals who have acquired positive habits.

These individuals will lead the momentum to continue the affirmative trend.

It only takes two months to exchange the old habit for a new and improved one.
