Beautiful display of plants
As much as I enjoy Jennie Lu Hagen’s gardening column, I feel I must mildly reprove her for her dismissal of Grandescapes Nursery on Island Avenue because they are not open on Sundays. If she had made the effort to visit on one of the other six days they are open, she would have been rewarded, like the rest of us, with the sight of beautifully displayed plants just bursting with health and “take me home with you” attitudes. It must have taken a huge amount of work to get it up and running in time for the growing season and, after our miserably wet winter and spring, walking into it was pure heaven. Their prices are reasonable and I found several perennials that have been on my wish list since I moved to this area as well as some beautiful new varieties I couldn’t resist. I’m thankful for all the nurseries that have established themselves in our valley in the past few years including Kauffman’s Greenhouses in Cove (who are also not open on Sundays). I pray they will all survive these tough economic times and be here for a long, long time. Deborah A. Rudd Cove Letters From Readers The Observer welcomes letters to the editor.
