Something magical

To the Editor:

A month ago, longtime Fishtrap supporter Janie Tippet and Interim Executive Director Barbara Dills joined together to ask for community support of Fishtrap. To date, 43 donors have contributed more than $4,000.

Our goal is to raise $11,000 for our core operating expenses. We need you to help us meet this goal.

Individual financial support is vital to Fishtrap’s ability to continue our core programs, and a broad base of individual supporters enhances Fishtrap’s ability to compete for grants in these tough economic times. For these reasons my wife, Angie, and I are making an additional donation to Fishtrap today.

There is something magical about Fishtrap — the people, the place, the dedication to writing in and about the West, and the life-changing experiences Fishtrap offers. We host the amazing Summer Fishtrap Workshops and Gathering, uniting Western authors, aspiring writers, musicians and others around a central theme for a week in the Wallowas.

We send writers into rural schools where many children have their first interaction with a living author; we offer college credit writing classes to local high school students, enhancing the available school curriculum; and we sponsor the Wallowa County Big Read, which just won a statewide award for rural excellence, engaging hundreds of local participants, spanning all age groups.

Now we’ve made it easier for you to help keep these great programs alive with an online donation option at http://www.fishtrap.org/. Online payments to Fishtrap are secure, but if you prefer, you can send a check to Fishtrap, P.O. Box 38, Enterprise 97828, or call in a credit card number to us at 541-426-3623.

Whatever you can give — whether it is $25, $250 or $2,500 — your support is so important to keeping Fishtrap programs vibrant and strong.

Nick Lunde

treasurer, Fishtrap Board of Directors
