Moving forward

To the Editor:

 The City of La Grande has successfully discussed and approved the 2011-2012 budgets for the Urban Renewal District and the City of La Grande. With the sacrifices made by all city employees in salary and fringe benefits, the city budget contains roughly the same funding as last year.

City management directors also did a commendable job in preparing their area budgets conservatively. The budget committees for both taxing entities met for two evenings asking questions of the city manager and directors.

Under the capable leadership of Chairman Doyle Slater for the Urban Renewal District and Chairman Ken Bruce for the La Grande budget, each budget was recommended to the La Grande City Council and the Urban Renewal District Board of Directors for adoption. Both budgets were adopted June 15.

La Grande City Council appreciates the hard work and attention to detail of each member of the budget committees, the city manager, city staff and directors.

The La Grande City Council continues the work of the people and is committed to moving our community forward.
