Vote for Rogers

To the Editor:

Undersheriff Steve Rogers is currently running for the office of retiring Wallowa County Sheriff Fred Steen.

There are two others vying for that position and they have both stated their position and previous experience in law enforcement, with some impressive credentials, but, in my estimation what they have expressed is not enough.

The Sheriff’s Department, under Fred Steen, is performing quite well and he has fielded a smooth-running machine.

Undersheriff Rogers mingles with his constituents and has endeared himself to this community, with the obvious exception of criminal violators.

Sheriff Steen, along with Rogers, plus all the deputies I have observed, are sharp in uniform and pleasant in demeanor.

The aforementioned qualities have, I believe, endeared themselves to the community.

I sleep well at night and feel we are very adequately protected. Sheriff Steen has declared 100 percent support for Rogers and that is good enough for me.

Rogers is a known entity and he is trusted and established, with plenty of local support. The other contenders, no matter how much experience elsewhere, do not have that time-earned quality through no fault of their own.

What I am alluding to above is along the lines of “if something ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” With Steve Rogers taking over, there will be a smooth transition, a smooth continuity.

I urge those that will be voting to choose Undersheriff Steve Rogers.

Stormy Burns

Joseph
