Too much wolf news

To the Editor:

Wolves, like many humans, eat meat. They can be expected to kill some cows before ranchers butcher them. Some local ranchers are being affected by wolf losses. Certainly monetary compensation does not make it easy to deal with such losses. Life isn’t easy, as ranchers know all too well.

But our government also manages elk herds to accommodate these same ranchers. Many Wallowa County cows graze public lands in summer, allowing ranchers to keep their private land for agriculture, winter feeding and calving. Cow tags are issued to reduce elk pressure on ranches.

Although losses of cattle to wolves can be expected, wolves deserve government protection since they are essential to the wild natural ecosystems that Oregonians value.

Times are changing. Ranchers are having to deal with laws that protect wild ecosystems. Other Americans are faced with loss of jobs, homes and access to food. American drones kill innocent women and children daily. So what’s newsworthy?

Please limit wolf news to the Wallowa County’s weekly section. There must be more of interest going on, even locally, to fill our front pages.

EOU play funny

To the Editor:

I wanted to say bravo, bravo and bravo to the cast of “The Foreigner” at EOU.

I have never laughed so much in my life as I did on March 8. I had an enjoyable night.
