Theories, not facts

To the Editor:

OK, Michael Stafford, in good humor, and at your invitation, I’ll call you crazy (see the Aug. 24 editorial page).

What you refer to and accept as “intellectualism” has, in numerous cases, proven to be pseudo-intellectualism. It has become “scientifically-accepted” human knowledge taught as fact, but based on theory.

We can scientifically monitor the fact that we are in a period of global warming. I’m concerned about it, but I am not ready to accept as fact that it is due to human activity rather than recurring cyclic climactic change.

I certainly don’t agree that conservatives of any politically-oriented group are less “intellectual” or less concerned with the environment than the liberals.

I do, however, think that we conservatives more often demonstrate the last shreds of “common sense” remaining in a country totally adrift from the political philosophy, goals and tenacity to Godly principles of our founding fathers.

I notice that you consider it “intellectual” to credit the origin of earth, life and all that exists to some kind of amazing accident. Sir Fred Hoyle, professor or astronomy at Cambridge University, has estimated the odds of the chance formation of life from inanimate matter to be in the order of 1 in 10 to the 40,000 power!

I find that it takes far less faith and is far more logical to believe in creator God; and of course, if we denounce creation, the origin of inanimate materials still remains unanswered.

Dr. Kent Hovind offers a $250,000 reward to anyone who can give any scientific proof of evolution (www.drdino.com). He hasn’t had to pay yet.

Pseudo--intellectuals who continue to accept as fact theories advanced as authoritative and valid in textbooks written by pseudo-intellectuals will continue to be misled.
