Wherever we look today, we see reported all kinds of problems related to the youth of our world. In Union County I’m happy to report that there are things happening that are delightful to witness. During this past year, the Elgin Opera house has hosted two plays. The first was, “ A Christmas Carol — Scrooge,” and “Beauty and the Beast”. These two plays were performed by local children and adults. The productions were wonderful. Wednesday, I dropped in at the Elgin Opera House for a rehearsal and witnessed over 60 people with most of this group consisting of youth from 6 years of age through the teen years. These young people were seriously learning their parts for the newest play to be presented, the famous “Sound of Music.” It was wonderful to be able to hear the adults and children sing these timeless songs. Everyone involved in this production were working to produce a masterpiece, from the directors to the people providing the props. Can you imagine they even found a part for me? It was very difficult to get tickets for the first two productions, as they sold out early. This time there is a special being offered. Instead of $15 for each ticket, if purchased in groups of 10 they are only $10. I would recommend that anyone wanting to partake of this wonderful production get their tickets early. Once again Terry Hale and his staff have done their community a wonderful service by producing this musical. The experience that is afforded to the participants from the young to the adults is something that they will benefit from all their lives. Thank you Terry and your whole production company. I hope that you will be able to come and enjoy this play. Dr. D.C. Winkelman Elgin |
