I want to say amen to Rustin Freeman’s June 24 letter concerning our local schools. I, too, feel duped and blackmailed into thinking it was good to close Willow. I didn’t want it then and don’t want it closed now. Where are the budget people? How about yearly repairs before a huge problem comes along? Why is there so much more emphasis on administrators and staff than on students? The money isn’t going in the right direction and there is too much waste. I served on Cove’s budget board for 11 years and the school board for four years and we did a very good job and turned out lots of wonderful, successful kids. Something is wrong. I thought everyone knew small schools with small classes are best. Kids won’t fall through the cracks so often. Wilma Page La Grande |
