Senators sell us out on arms control treaty vote

To the Editor:

Both Senators Merkley and Wyden voted against the bill stopping the U.N. Arms Control Treaty and for the bill which is for background checks and some sort of limitation on weapons.

This is exactly the opposite of what we had asked them to vote, and further is exactly opposite to supporting our constitutional rights.

I was so mad I wrote both of them that we were now their political enemies and would do everything we could to assure they were not re-elected.

We cannot keep re-electing these people that repeatedly sell us out, pervert our constitutional rights and endanger our home safety.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

To the Editor:

Child abuse is not a fun subject to talk about or think about, so most of us try not to.

We hear how important it is to focus on child abuse prevention, but don’t really stop and think about what that means.

What that means is, it is up to us as adults to do whatever we can
to help keep a child safe (any

Children many times suffer in silence, as they either think what is happening to them is normal, or they are told to be quiet, or they will be in trouble, because it is their fault the abuse is happening.

If you are concerned with something you have observed involving a child, please contact your local law enforcement and share your concerns. Your input could help save a child.

To highlight Child Abuse Prevention month, we like to bring your attention to all the family-focused activities going on in our county.

To find out the various activities, here is a link to the April calendar: http://news.unioncountykids.org/?p=2251.

The annual Blue Monday event is scheduled for the last Monday of the month, April 29, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will be held at Willow Elementary School in La Grande.

There will be food, music and entertainment, along with a variety of fun activities for kids. The event is free, so bring your kids and come on out for a fun family time.
