Grin and Barrett: ESPN Gameday where are you?

Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit should be in Imbler Friday. ESPN Classic needs to have cameras at the high school for this instant classic.

Head coach Rusty Eschler leads his undefeated Joseph team into powerhouse Imbler Friday.

The two top teams in the league, an early league championships perhaps? Does it get any better than this?

This will not be the 46-point blowout it was last season.

Joseph has had the same players together for almost their entire high school careers and they are ready.

“In a small school teams go through cycles and right now Joseph is at that high point,” Imbler head coach Lee Lowe said.

“They are a well-coached group. They can put points on the board and not make many mistakes. I feel that they are a much deeper team than us. We are going to have our hands full.”

I have been to almost every school in Special District 4 and heard the fans. They all have one thing in common — they all want to beat Imbler.

The Panthers have been the dominant team in this area for some time now and in the preseason, seemed beatable.

But, Imbler has played solid in their supposed rebuilding year. Since its lone loss, the Panthers have outscored opponents, 146-54.

Nick West looked amazing last week in the Panthers 76-38 drubbing of Wallowa. The senior pulled almost everything thrown at him down. There is a definite chemistry between Bryan Mills and West.

I would love to be Mills and have West and Dalton McDaniel as my receivers. I already have them on my eight-man fantasy team on Yahoo.

McDaniel is the all-around football player. When Mills was hurt, he threw for 651 yards in three games. Since then, he’s made the transition to wide receiver and leads the team in receiving yards.

The Panthers have so many weapons on both sides of the ball.

Zack Phillips and Jace Eisminger are two of the hardest hitting defenders I have ever seen. Phillips can score on defense. Last week, he picked up a ball and ran in a score after a fumble on a kick return.

If you are doing nothing on Friday afternoon and enjoy football, you better make the trip to Imbler.

Joseph looks tough, averaging nearly 500 yards of offense a game. But, in the words of Mr. Corso, not so fast my friends.

Last week, Imbler’s West had 156 yards receiving on only eight catches ... yo ... that’s unbelievable. Imbler takes this one at home.

Now, where’s the head of the Panthers’ mascot so I can put it on like Mr. Corso.
