Van Dyke to discuss history

ROSEBURG — Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Biologist Dan Van Dyke will discuss a history of Rogue River dams and native fish as part of Oregon Wildlife’s new Medford lecture series. The talk begins at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 28 at the Mace Watchable Wildlife Memorial Center at the Jackson County Expo, 1 Peninger Road, Central Point.

Oregon Wildlife (formerly Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation) hosts Discovering Wildlife Lecture Series in Portland and expanded to include Medford and Bend in 2014.

The lecture series continues Feb. 25 with a talk on Rogue Valley deer migration and March 25 on Pacific fisher.

Presentations begin at 6:30 p.m. and admission is just $5 free to Oregon Wildlife members. To register, go to Oregon Wildlife’s website at www.owhf.org and click on Discovering Wildlife Lecture Series.

Hatchery to meet Tuesday 

ALSEA— The Oregon Hatchery Research Center Advisory Committee will meet from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday at the ODFW Adair District Office, 7118 NE Vandenberg Ave., Adair Village.

The agenda includes review and approval of a revised charter and mission statement, and of the 2013 OHRC annual report. The board also will review and make recommendations on three research proposals the OHRC is seeking possible funding for from the Oregon State Legislature and other potential funding sources. The meeting is open to the public, and an opportunity for public comment is scheduled.

The OHRC is a cooperative research project between the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Oregon State University.
