The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the Cascade Conference Tournament with an 80-70 victory over Northwest Christian University Tuesday at Quinn Coliseum.

The win for the No. 22 Mountaineers was the 300th win for head coach Anji Weissenfluh.

The Mountaineers went on a 12-2 run, capped by a pair of free throws by Brittney Newcomb, to go up 66-54. After the Mountaineers took the double-figure lead, they never looked back. EOU grew the lead to 16 points, 75-59, after a Nicole Redd jumper.

In the first half of the game the Mountaineers and Beacons were locked in a back in forth battle. After the first five minutes of the game, Allie Kelsey hit a three pointer tying the game at 10-10. This was the fourth tie of the game. The fifth tie game came less than a minute later as Hannah Frederick matched a Nikki Osborne three pointer to tie the game at 13-all.

EOU took control of the game in the second half of the contest. With the game tied at 38-all, Osborne hit a 3-pointer to give the Mountaineers a three-point lead, 41-38.

The Beacons continued to battle, and after a pair of free throws by Chandler Gabrio, Northwest Christian tied the game at 46-all.

Nicole Redd scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Mountaineers. Brittney Newcomb followed with 16 points, while Nikki Osborne scored 13.

Hannah Frederick scored 17 points and Sami Pitts scored 16 to lead the Beacons.

With the win EOU advances to the CCC semifinals where they will face Southern Oregon at 7 p.m. Friday in Quinn Coliseum.
