College of Idaho rallies in seventh to sweep doubleheader
After cruising past Eastern Oregon University in the opening game of a doubleheader at Peggy Anderson Field, it took a seventh-inning rally for the College of Idaho to come away with a clean sweep.
The Mountaineers were poised to pick up their second conference win of the season, leading 5-3 headed into the bottom of the seventh. But, College of Idaho had other plans.
Back-to-back singles by Ashley Van Horne and Alexis Macias started the comeback. A single up the middle by Katie Rowe cut the lead to 5-4. A one-out double by McKensie Stanton cleared the bases and gave the Yotes the lead.
EOU got a runner aboard with one out, but couldn’t advance Britnee Carman-Rice past first base.
College of Idaho jumped out quickly and cruised to a 14-2 win in the opening game. The Yotes built a 7-0 through the first two innings of play.
Destiny Turner capped the streak of runs with a double that scored two runs in the second inning. She finished the game 2-for-2 with four RBIs.
Nikayla Skinner picked up her eighth win of the season for the College of Idaho. Skinner gave up four hits in five innings. She struck out six and walked one.
Lindsey Wachli was saddled with the loss. She lasted three innings, and allowed 12 runs on nine hits.
Stephanie Maestretti went 1-of-2 with an RBI to lead the Mountaineers.
EOU (6-10) will travel to play Whitworth College on a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. today in Spokane, Wash.
