LEGION BASEBALL: Legends rally for season-opening win
La Grande spotted Pendleton seven runs before getting to within one run, and a four-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth inning catapulted the Legacy Legends to a 11-10 come-from-behind victory Friday in their opening game of the American Legion season.
Trailing 10-7, La Grande's Jake Chamberlain slapped a two-run single with runners on second and third base. Following a tying run on a Pendleton wild pitch, Daniel Cribbs blooped a single into left field that brought Eli Wisdom home to break the 10-all tie.
Tyson Wicklander, who got the win after coming on in relief during the second inning, allowed just one base runner over the course of the sixth and seventh innings to seal the win.
The Legacy Legends totaled 10 hits, with Brandon Cederholm and Wisdom each having two apiece.
A four-run first inning put Pendleton ahead and they tacked on three more in the second to take a 7-0 lead. La Grande, who faces Meridian, Idaho, in a doubleheader on Sunday at Pioneer Park, got back into it behind two-run singles by Zack Jacobs and Cederholm in the bottom half of the second, cutting the lead to 7-5.
