Local wrestlers advance to state tournament in Portland
ELGIN — Eleven wrestlers survived the 2A/1A District Wrestling Tournament to advance to state in Elgin Saturday.
Crane took home the team trophy with a score of 202 points. Enterprise finished second with a total of 180. Union came in fourth with 114.5 points, while Imbler rounded out the top five with 114 points.
Enterprise /Joseph will send four wrestlers to the state tournament Friday at Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
Jared Wilcox defeated Imbler’s Tyler Tandy in the championship match at 160 pounds, winning by fall with a minute left in the match.
At 170 pounds, Daniel Parker lost to Union/Cove’s Chad Witty in the championship match 4-1.
Matthew Staigle won the title at 195 pounds. He pinned Imbler’s Taylor Tandy 56 seconds into the match.
Enterprise/Joseph’s final wrestler to qualify was Wyatt Warnock. He picked up a 5-2 decision against Crane’s Michael Casey in the championship match.
Union/Cove will send two wrestlers to the state tournament.
At 113 pounds, teammates Josh Devore and Daniel Colton squared off in the championship match. Colton won by fall 55 seconds into the first round.
Chad Witty, who won the title at 170 pounds, will also represent Union/Cove.
Elgin had two wrestlers move on past the district tournament.
At 132 pounds, Damian Hernandez picked up a win by rule against Riley Sheehy of Union/Cove.
Jadon McKay was also a winner by rule in his second place match. McKay was awarded the win against Enterprise/Joseph’s Kyle Roepke.
Imbler will be represented by Tyler and Taylor Tandy, who both finished second. Tyler will represent the Panthers at 160 pounds, while Taylor will wrestle at 195 pounds.
