Imbler duo keys 3-1 win at OACA 1A All-Star game Saturday

After playing volleyball together competitively for the past six years, Imbler’s Malia Mills and Jacey Teeter played their last game together for the East at the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association 1A All-Star game at Eastern Oregon University Saturday. Under the direction of their former head coach Jennifer Teeter, the East won convincingly, 3-1.

Both Mills and Teeter played major roles in the victory, as Mills had 16 kills and three aces, while Teeter had one ace and three kills. In their final season playing for the Panthers, Mills and Jacey Teeter led the team to an undefeated season and a class 1A state title win over Condon/Wheeler after losing in the finals in 2012. Jennifer Teeter said her captains, Mills and Jacey Teeter, showed great determination and leadership to key the perfect run last fall.

“In the summer before their senior season, they worked really hard, and were ready to play from day 1,” Jennifer Teeter said. “They were fired up and ready to play, and both showed great leadership throughout the season. Both were great captains, and gave the team an extra push whenever necessary.”

After losing the state title in 2012, Mills explained how hungry she and her teammates were last fall to finish the season on top.

“The second we lost the championship in 2012, we knew we would be back next year and would win because we knew how it felt to come so close and lose,” Mills said. “We knew what changes to make, and did what we had to do to make our dreams come true.”
