La Grande lands two players on the Class 4A all-state basketball team
The La Grande boys basketball team can finally sit back and think about the season that was.
A 16-game winning streak, advancing to Corvallis for the first time since 2010 and bringing home hardware — a fifth-place trophy.
Now, there’s a little more to add to the laundry list of achievements for the Tigers this season. Tyson Wicklander and Troy Williams were both selected to the Class 4A all-state team.
Wicklander, a senior, was selected as a first-team member.
“I was shocked. It’s a real honor to have my name in there with the best players at the 4A level,” Wicklander said. “I never could’ve done it without my coaches and every player who has been on a team with me since my freshman year.
“Every player has made me better. Every player would be lying if they said that they didn’t have personal goals for themselves. You always want to be the best you can be while still putting the team first before yourself.
Williams, also a senior, was an honorable-mention selection.
Philomath’s Ben DeSaulnier was named the Player of the Year.
