Tigers saddled with losses

MILTON-FREEWATER — The La Grande softball team came out on the wrong end of a pitching duel against Taft in the final game of the Mac-Hi Tournament on Saturday.

Taft got on the board with two runs in the top of the first, and those runs held up during a 2-0 win over the Tigers.

Mattie Spencer settled into the game after allowing three hits in the opening inning. She scattered three hits in her final four innings of work. Spencer recorded one strikeout. Breann Givens worked two scoreless innings to close out the game.

Emily Broderick matched Spencer’s performance on the mound. Broderick worked six innings, while allowing four hits and walking three.

A big comeback and bad weather led to a Tiger loss on Friday.

Scappoose scored five runs in the top of the sixth, and rain forced an end to the game, an 11-10 loss for La Grande.

The Tigers committed three errors and walked two batters in the sixth, helping Scappoose complete the comeback.

La Grande took a 10-6 lead led by triples from Avery Albrecht and Spencer in the fifth inning.

Spencer finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Addie Hagerman, Kali Avila and Shania Holpuch each finished with two hits. Kaetlyn Bell drove in a pair of runs.

The Tigers (2-4 overall) return to the field against Pendleton at 4 p.m. Saturday in Pioneer Park.
