8 EOU TRACKSTERS TO COMPETE IN NAIA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Eight members of Eastern Oregons track and field team will compete next week at the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The final pieces of the national team came together Saturday at the McDonalds II indoor meet at the University of Idaho in Moscow. Easterns Ben Terry qualified for nationals in the mens 800 meters, finishing sixth in 1:56.03, which was three-quarters of a second faster than the qualifying time.

Terry already had qualified as a member of Easterns distance medley relay team, which had qualified the weekend before in Moscow.

The other members of the distance medley relay are Dave Terry, Pat Egelus and Sean Williams. Egelus also will run the 1,000 at nationals and Williams is among the 10 fastest in the nation in the 3,000.

Alternates for the relay are Eric Griffiths and Brian Crowl, who both had provisional qualifying times last weekend in the 3,000.

Kelsey Jones improved her provisional qualifying time in the womens 3,000. She was fifth in 10:36.76, six seconds faster than her previous best this season.

Easterns final member of the team, who did not compete last weekend, is the groups most decorated. All-American weight thrower Leah Merrell has a broken right ankle but will compete anyway at both the NAIA national meet and the NCAA Division III indoor national meet next month.
