AC ELECTRICAL WINS TITLE
AC Electrical Construction of La Grande won its first championship at the 23rd annual men's moonlight softball tournament at Pioneer Park Sunday afternoon.
Two three-run home runs highlighted AC Electrical Construction's 18-13 win over McNary Market of Umatilla.
Fred Widman of McNary Market said the tournament is awesome.
It is a "bomb tournament," he said. "Games at night, all night (are) neat."
This is the second year McNary Market has participated.
Widman said the team was not expected to advance this far.
The team consists mostly of 22 to 23 year olds.
AC Electrical Construction was down 8-2 when Neil Able's three-run home run in the bottom of the third sparked a rally.
In the bottom of the fourth, AC Electrical Construction added five runs to steal the momentum from McNary Market.
In the bottom of the fifth, Shane Dunham drilled a three-run homer to left to add to AC Electrical Construction's lead.
Four RBI singles in the same inning increased the lead to 17-8.
McNary Market rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth.
McNary Market defeated Midway Tavern 16-6 in six innings to advance into the championship.
AC Electrical Construction also beat Midway Tavern 16-6 in five innings in the semifinals.
AC Electrical Construction finished second last year.
Kevin Kohr of AC Electrical Construction said it has been a long time since a La Grande team won the tournament.
About 32 teams participated in this weekend's tournament.
