MONMOUTH — Hot. Steamy. Ninety-seven degrees outside. One hundred and fifteen degrees on the track.

Not a good day for an OSAA 1A/2A Track & Field Championship at Western Oregon University.

Yet, despite the sauna-like conditions, Old Oregon League and Blue Mountain athletes represented their schools and the Eastern Oregon region well.

IMBLER

Nick West placed third in the 300-meter hurdles (42.47), fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.21) and eighth in the 400 meter dash (53.96).

His sister, Reva West, placed fourth in the pole vault (7-09), while Lindsay Martin placed ninth in the 800-meter run (2:35.70).

Also, Stephanie Anthony  placed third in the Triple Jump (32-06.50), by recording a personal best record by nearly a foot.

Imbler coach Heidi Bowers said she was “very proud” of her athletes.

“The good thing is, I didn’t take any seniors to state,” she said.  “They’ll all be back next year.”

JOSEPH

Call it The Patton Show.

Colby Patton placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.49) and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (52.39).

She was also a leg on the third place 4 x 400-meter relay team (4:20.85) and fourth place 4 x 100-meter relay team (54.68) along with Amber Shear, Megan Yost and Lena Moro.

Devin Patton placed second in the high jump (6-00) and was a leg on the fourth place 4 x 400-meter relay team (3:41.16) along with Chris Harshman, Sam Garnett and Kenny Lathrop.

Ben Garnett placed fourth in the discus (132-08) and  Clancy Warnock 10th (149-04).

Also, Lathrop placed seventh  in the 800-meter run (2:09.85) and was a leg on the sixth place 4 x 100 meter relay team along with Harshman, Warnock and Ben Garnett.

Joseph coach John Roberts spoke about his highest placers — The Pattons.

“It’s just a good jump for (Devin),” Roberts said. “He was happy with getting second. I was happy for him.”

And for Colby?

“We were hoping we could get second. Colby ran a nice time.  Her best time of the year.

“They finished their season year good.”

ENTERPRISE

Coach Dan Moody said it was the best showing his kids have had in quite a while.

The Outlaws girls placed 11th among all participating 2A teams, led by a second place finish from Tricia O’Leary in the triple jump (32-09).

“She had a sprained foot last year and wasn’t able to compete the way she should have,” Moody said.  “She felt pretty disappointed.

“This year, being back and healthy, she was there and did a great job.”

Also performing well was Kayla Foster, who placed eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:03.57) as well as Joscelyn Stangel, who placed eighth in the 800-meter run (2:35.77).

Stangel, Foster and O’Leary were also pieces of the sixth place 4 x 400-meter relay team along with Alex McCadden (4:24.55).

As for the boys, Patrick Baird placed sixth in the 800-meter run (2:05.93) and Dusty McAuliffe placed seventh in the 400-meter dash (54.55).

Each was also part of the seventh place 4 x 400-meter relay team (3:43.51) along with Jacob Micka and Matt Fisher.

Also, Jacob Lynn placed ninth in the discus (103-00), Jake Girtz placed ninth in the javelin (139-01), and Matt Perren placed 10th in the high jump (5-05).

ELGIN

Jess McClune went down with an injured hamstring Friday, hindering Elgin from reaching high among all girls teams.

“It’s fair to say we would’ve came out of there with 25 or more points, had she been healthy,” Elgin coach Chad Peck said.

“(But) we had a good day.  Everybody came out of there with a state medal that we sent.”

Cheyanne Predmore placed sixth in the pole vault (7-06) and was a part of the sixth place 4 x 100 meter-relay team (53.13) along with Sadie Lewis, Lizzy Fitchett and Susan Jones.

Junior Megan Jarrell placed second in the shot put (36-07.50), making it three consecutive years with a state medal in this event.  She won the event last year, and threw even further this year, although, this time, it was good for second place.

“She didn’t throw as well as she wanted to, or would’ve liked to, but second place is nothing really to be disappointed about,” Peck said.  “I guess she has to realize there’s a whole lot of kids who would love to be in her shoes.”

UNION

Alex Palmer placed  seventh in the 800-meter run (2:06.64) and Michael Cox seventh in the 1,500 meter run (4:27.99).

Kate Stewart placed eighth in the 1,500 meter run (5:32.98).

POWDER VALLEY

Candra Clark placed sixth in the shot put (33-04.50).
