BADGERS READY FOR PLAYOFFS, WIN 59-22

By The Observer

NORTH POWDER A banged-up Powder Valley team still had few problems Friday against Old Oregon League cellar-dweller Adrian.

The Badgers had a 43-0 lead at halftime and played their JV squad in the second half of a 59-22 victory that kept Powder Valley undefeated this season at 8-0.

Injuries and a lack of competition are giving Powder Valley coach Alan Stanfield reason to worry, however. The Badgers have a District 4-1A playoff game next week at home, but the Trico League opponent is unknown and is not expected to last beyond the 45-point mercy rule.

By the time we get to the (state) quarterfinals in two weeks its going to be six weeks since theyve played a four-quarter game, Stanfield said.

Powder Valleys starters have not played a full game since beating Jordan Valley on Sept. 28.

Powder must also deal with injuries. Sophomore quarterback Todd Baxter dislocated his wrist in last weeks half-game against Crane. With a well-taped wrist, Baxter threw for two touchdowns and ran for another against Adrian.

Backup quarterback Cody Taylor, a freshman, got a hip pointer a week ago in a JV game and sat out this week. That moved sophomore Deven Thompson, who has a banged-up knee, from running back to emergency quarterback.

Thompson also threw two touchdown passes and ran for another late in the second quarter and in the second half.

I was proud of the way our JV played, Stanfield said. That was fun for them because from here on out their time will be limited.

Powder Valleys Brody Turner added to his burgeoning season totals with four more touchdowns. He had runs of 51 and 30 yards in the first quarter and caught a 14-yard pass from Baxter and a 62-yard throw from Thompson for scores in the second quarter.

Ryan Browne and David Dozhier also scored touchdowns for Powder Valley.
