BAKER'S BACK NINE FAVORS LA GRANDE
BAKER CITY A disappointing front nine holes faded with the La Grande Tigers' performance on the back nine Wednesday at the Baker Girls Golf Invitational.
With putting a challenge because no two greens were alike, the Tigers rallied to win the tournament by 19 strokes.
"The greens were very inconsistent, and nearly impossible for the girls to get any touch going with their putting," said La Grande assistant coach Jayne Baremore.
"But we kept our heads up and got the results that we wanted. Maybe not the scores, but overall it was great to see the girls come back from the disappointment that they were showing after their first nine," Baremore said.
La Grande's Kelli Greenough led the way with an 88, three strokes behind medalist Anna Jaramillo of Ontario.
La Grande's Carrie Waldrop shot a 94, Summer Presley and Kacey Evins had 104s, and Bess Buzzard shot a 105.
La Grande's team score was 390, followed by Pendleton at 409 and Baker at 415. Other Greater Oregon League scores: Grant Union 418, Ontario 453, Vale 489.
La Grande competes today at the Pendleton Invitional at the Pendleton Country Club.
